Valentine’s Day on the Island

Per the creator:

We visited Galveston on Valentines Day 2009 staying with Terri and Ken in Terris Beach house. Here is what we saw of damage from Hurricane Ike, which came through on 9/13/08, five months prior to our visit. Note the sad owner planting grass under his house that he purchased in August, 2008. Lots of questions about what is the right thing for whom to do on our barrier islands (And New Orleans, for that matter.) where the weather and the sea always have their way.

Other videos of Mardi Gras, etc. can be found at their YouTube page.

Debris Cleanup Trucks…

This is fascinating video. The person who shot the clip said:

Picking up household debris in Galveston, TX after Hurricane IKE. This went on for months after the storm. Most people lost everything. There were about 100 trucks like this working 12 hours a day.
