Valentine’s Day on the Island

Per the creator:

We visited Galveston on Valentines Day 2009 staying with Terri and Ken in Terris Beach house. Here is what we saw of damage from Hurricane Ike, which came through on 9/13/08, five months prior to our visit. Note the sad owner planting grass under his house that he purchased in August, 2008. Lots of questions about what is the right thing for whom to do on our barrier islands (And New Orleans, for that matter.) where the weather and the sea always have their way.

Other videos of Mardi Gras, etc. can be found at their YouTube page.

Mardi Gras in Galveston

Almost six months after Ike, backpack reporter Becky Chosed takes a road trip to Galveston. She tells us how the island is doing after Hurricane Ike, and what Mardi Gras is like in 2009.

If you’d like to see more raw footage from Mardis Gras, a couple of YouTube users have posted lot of clips here and here.
